Overview of Official NACA Visit to Liberia: March 8 – 25, 2010

As president of NACA, it was indeed a privilege to represent this association during such a critically important visit to Liberia and Grand Cape Mount County in particular. The visit was an overall success in that progress was made on all of the stated objectives. This report shall discuss each objective and report on the detailed discussions and outcomes.

NACA Commitment to Education in Grand Cape Mount County as #1 Priority

NACA dispatched its president, Willie Givens, Jr. and its Chairman of the Education Committee, Edward Fahnbulleh to conduct a first-hand assessment of the condition of junior and senior high school education in Cape Mount and determine how we can partner with other stakeholders to address the current situation. A Cape Mount County Stakeholder’s meeting was called by Mr. Givens to address the following;

Dr. Abraham Lamina James Memorial Scholarship - 2010

The NACA and the family of Prof. Abraham Lamina James honor his legacy by launching scholarship(s) for deserving Liberians accepted to the University of Liberia. Professor James’ legacy as an educator, public servant, and life-long academician is honored by extending to others the opportunity to do likewise. The scholarship is structured to address some of the challenges facing the education sector in Liberia during this critical era of reconstruction.

Konjah Bridge Status Update (March 2010)

The National Association of Cape Mountainians in the Americas (NACA) Inc., a 501c3 organization incorporated in the United States, joined the people of Cape Mount to embark on the construction of a serviceable bridge across the Konja Creek in Porkpa District, Grand Cape Mount County.

2009 Annual NACA Convention Report

Participants at NACA’s 6th Annual Convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana from October 9-11, 2009, reflected on the past when Cape Mount County was considered the “cradle of education” which saw students from across the country and neighboring Sierra Leone attended schools in the county. The convention had as its theme: Education, Our Top Priority.

Summary:

The period of this report is from September 1, 2008 to September 30, 2009. The official NACA fiscal year begins September 1st and ends August 31st of the following calendar year. The financial report therefore delineates this fiscal period and also provides the most up-to-date information from 09-01-2009 to 09-30-2009. Details are presented in Attachments 1 to 3. A number of important processes and policies are being developed to address continuous improvement opportunities in NACA’s operations.
