Dear Members, Friends, and Supporters,
The National Association of Cape Mountainians in the Americas (NACA) has established a reputation for helping to address some of the pressing needs of the people of Cape Mount County, Liberia. We must not only celebrate past accomplishments, but must move forward with even more determination to make a difference in the lives of our less fortunate brothers and sisters, especially given the global economic down-turn. Fundamental elements of all of NACA's initiatives shall be partnership and local participation.
Partnership: The ambitious agenda identified by my administration will have to be funded more creatively than in the past, as historical levels of collected membership dues and donations from the current roster alone will not be sufficient to meet our goals. More frequent fundraisers at chapter and national levels of NACA, proposals for grants, as well as internet and other new avenues of support must be pursued.
Local Participation: The Cape Mount Development Agenda was published recently (www.emansion.gov.lr/CDAs) as the compilation of the county's needs based on a very thorough process of dialogue with citizens and leaders within the county. Using this document as a guide, NACA will seek to empower the local people to resolve many of the challenges collaboratively. Most importantly, the focus shall be on providing tools necessary to reshape the outlook of a people so adversely impacted by years of war, disease, and poverty.
Important near term projects under consideration include
1. Partnering with FUEL Youth to implement aspects of a sustainable program to help raise the standard of education and success rate of students in the county.
2. Partnering with expert entrepreneurs to implement market development, focusing on challenges faced by Market Women. Helping the locals to rebuild the Tahn, Gola Konneh market destroyed during the war is the specific target.
3. Completion of the Konjah Bridge in Porkpa District to facilitate supply and trade of basic goods and services
I am very optimistic that together, our talents, resources, and goodwill can be harnessed to yield positive results that will outlive us and continue to reproduce the fruits of dignity, prosperity, and pride in Cape Mount, in Liberia, and the world for generations to come. I asked that you join us in making this a reality.
Faithfully,
Willie A. Givens, Jr.
National President - NACA, Inc.
